A rhythm game where you have two orbiting balls that move along a path, and you’ve got to press a button when one of them crosses the path. Simple. Horizontal paths are basically hitting once every beat, vertical paths are on the “and” of every beat, hexagons are triplets, and so on and so forth, each new shape and path introduced one level at a time. What makes this game so good? Any failure and you need to return to the last checkpoint. That alone makes it one of the hardest rhythm games I’ve played, but the fact that it doesn’t let you be bad at the game forced it into being my favorite. It has a great practice mode you can use mid-level to practice specific sections slowed down, and the way the level progresses helps you put everything together (though there may be a difficulty spike here and there to act as your “boss stage”). Soon you’ll go from basic horizontal to vertical to swing rhythm, ⅞ time signatures, using more than one button…

Most levels will also have a speed challenge, where you have to beat the level start to finish with no checkpoints, and at a faster speed - the game allows you to set the speed you do an attempt so that you can start at a normal speed before moving up to the faster speed, and the game is merciful in that extremely hard levels will either just use the original speed or automatically pass the speed test after beating the main level. With how things progress, the speed trials sound more scary than they actually are.

I was able to beat all levels, including Crown Island (which contains the hardest official levels in the game) with speed trials and words cannot describe the serotonin it provides to just boot it up and beat it every so often. They also keep adding more levels and keeping an updated list of endorsed community levels so I’ll have to keep coming back. There is a thriving custom-level community which pushes the limits on what this game and the humans who play it can do, though I frankly think needing 3+ buttons to play the game is a little outside of my scope for playing the game.
